This Privacy Policy explains what information Lune collects, why, who can see it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It covers the Lune Android app and the servers that run it.
Lune is developed and operated by Swadesh Mahato, an independent developer in Kolkata, India, publishing as “fusionfroze” (“Lune,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We decide how your information is used, which makes us the “data controller” (or “data fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023).

The short version#
- Lune is for two people. What you set or send in Lune (your name, moon color, status, mood, whispers and which of them you keep, touches, check-ins, battery level, when you were last active and, unless you turn it off, your time zone) goes to one person: the partner you paired with. There are no public profiles, no search and no followers.
- Whisper text is end-to-end encrypted. It is encrypted on your phone and can only be decrypted on your partner’s phone and yours. We store only the encrypted version and cannot read it.
- Everything else is not end-to-end encrypted. Your display name, moon color, status (including when you set it and when it ends), mood, custom labels, battery level, last-active time, time zone, touches, check-ins, which whispers you keep, pairing details and subscription state are readable by our servers. They are protected in transit and by access rules, but they are not end-to-end encrypted.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Lune has no advertising, analytics, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
- No location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. Lune doesn’t ask for any of these, and doesn’t use them. Lune does share your phone’s time zone with your partner, so they know your hour. A time zone isn’t your location, but it can suggest a region, and you can turn sharing off (section 1.2).
- You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account), or with our web form or by email. Section 8 lists exactly what is deleted and the few things that are not.
1Information we collect#
1.1Information you give us
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Email address | Needed to sign in. If you use email sign-in, we email you a 6-digit one-time code. If you use Google sign-in, Google gives us the email address on your Google account. |
| Display name | 1–24 characters. With email sign-in, it’s the name you type. With Google sign-in, we start with the name on your Google account, shortened to 24 characters. You can change it in Settings → Account. If no name is available, we use “Friend.” |
| Moon color | The color you pick for your moon in Settings → Your moon, one of eight. Your partner’s app and widget show you in this color. |
| Status and mood | Your current status (for example “busy” or “sleeping”) and mood (for example “happy” or “tired”), whether set in the app or from the home-screen widget. We also record when you set your current status and, if you give it an end (for example “1 h” or “until tonight”), when it ends. |
| Custom status/mood labels | Up to 16 characters each. The labels you save stay on your phone. Only the label you make active is sent to our servers so your partner can see it. |
| Whispers | Short notes of up to 60 characters. They are end-to-end encrypted before they leave your phone (see section 4). |
| Nudges | When you tap Ask to ask your partner for a whisper, we record which pairing it was for and when you sent it, so we can allow one nudge every 30 minutes. We keep only your most recent nudge. A nudge carries no message of its own. |
| Touches | A touch is a wordless vibration you send your partner. For each one, we record which pairing it was for, who sent it, when, which of three patterns it was (tap, hold or heartbeat), and whether you both reached for each other within a minute. We use these records to deliver the touch, to limit how often touches can be sent, and to notice when you both reach at once. A touch carries no words. We keep each touch for 90 days. |
| Check-ins | A check-in is a one-tap note to your partner: “Home safe,” “Landed,” “All good,” “On my way,” or one of your own (up to 16 characters, with an icon). For each one, we record which pairing it was for, who sent it, which check-in it was and when. For one of your own, we also store its words and icon. We use these records to deliver the check-in, to show it to your partner for 2 hours, and to limit how often check-ins can be sent. A check-in never includes your location. We remove the words of your own check-ins after 2 hours, and keep the rest of each record for 30 days. The check-ins you save stay on your phone. Only the one you send is sent to us. |
| Keeps | When you keep a whisper in your journal, we record which whisper it is, that you kept it, which pairing it belongs to, and when you kept it. We never store the whisper’s text with it: the whisper itself stays end-to-end encrypted. A keep isn’t end-to-end encrypted, because it’s a record about a whisper, like the time it was sent. Your partner sees it (section 2.1). When you let a whisper go, we delete your keep. |
| Invite codes | Each account has one 8-character invite code. When your partner enters your code, the two of you are paired. |
| Support messages | If you email us or use our account-deletion request form, we get what you send, including your email address. |
1.2Information collected automatically
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Battery level | A whole-number percentage (0–100) of your phone’s battery. We only read it when you open Lune or bring it back to the foreground, and when you send a status or mood (from the app or the widget). Your partner sees it. |
| Time zone | The name of your phone’s time zone, for example “Asia/Kolkata” or “America/New_York”, as your phone’s clock settings report it. Never your location or coordinates. Lune shares it by default, so your partner can see your local time when your time zones differ. We store it with your presence and replace it when your phone’s time zone changes, for example when you travel. If you turn off Share my time (Settings → Connection), we clear it. |
| Last-active time | We record the time whenever you open Lune or bring it back to the foreground, and whenever you send a status, mood or whisper. Your partner sees this as “active X minutes ago.” |
| Pairing records | Who you’re paired with, when you paired, which of you entered the code, and when a pairing ended. If either of you sets the day you began, for counting your moons together, we also store that date, the moment that day began where it was set, and which of you set it. |
| Whisper metadata | For each whisper, we store who sent it, which pairing it belongs to, and when it was sent. The encrypted message is a little longer than the original text, so its size gives only a rough idea of how long the message is. |
| Encryption public key | Lune creates an encryption key pair on your phone. The public key, its version number and when it last changed are sent to our servers so your partner’s phone can use them. The private key never leaves your phone. |
| Push token | If Lune can register your phone for push delivery, we store a push token for your device and the platform (“android”). It lets us refresh your widget when your partner changes something, play a chime when they send you a whisper, show you their nudges and check-ins, and let you feel their touches. Versions of Lune that can play chimes and show nudges also record that this token can receive them, and when that was recorded. Versions that can receive touches or check-ins also record that. |
| Trial and subscription status | When your free trial started, and a copy of your subscription state from RevenueCat: whether it’s active, in a grace period or set to renew, the current period end date, the product (monthly or annual) and the store. We never receive your card or payment details. |
| First Light status | If you paired during our founding period, we record a “First Light” flag and, for the first 100 pairs, a “Crescent” number. This is a recognition badge only. |
| Account and security records | Our authentication provider (Supabase) records when your account was created, how you sign in (email or Google), when you last signed in, and session tokens. Like almost every online service, our servers and providers also log technical request data, such as IP addresses, timestamps and error messages, for security and troubleshooting. Our server functions log internal account IDs (not names, emails or message contents) while they process requests. |
1.3Information from third parties
- Google (only if you use Google sign-in). We ask Google for the basic
profileandemailscopes. Google gives us your name, email address, Google account ID and profile picture link. We use the name and email. Our authentication provider stores the profile picture link as part of your sign-in record, but Lune never shows it or uses it. We don’t ask for your contacts, Drive, Gmail, calendar or anything else. - RevenueCat and Google Play (only if you subscribe or restore a purchase). We receive your subscription status and billing events, as described above and in section 5.
We do not buy information about you or get it from data brokers, marketing partners or social networks.
1.4What we don’t collect
We don’t collect your location, contacts, photos, files, camera, microphone, call logs, SMS, browsing history or advertising ID. Your phone’s time zone (section 1.2) comes from its clock settings, not from location services, and Lune has no location permission. It isn’t your location, but it can suggest the region you’re in. Lune contains no advertising, analytics, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs.
2Who can see your information#
2.1Your partner
While you’re paired, your partner’s app, including their home-screen widget, shows:
- your display name
- your moon color
- your current status and mood (including an active custom label), when your status ends if you gave it an end, and whether you set it a day or more ago (for example “set yesterday”)
- your latest whisper, decrypted on their phone, and your whisper history for this pairing
- which whispers you keep (their journal shows “kept by” and your name, or “kept by you both” when they keep it too)
- your battery level
- how long ago you were last active
- the touches you send, and when you both reach for each other at once
- the check-ins you send, and when you sent them, for 2 hours
- the day the two of you began, if either of you set it, and which of you set it
- your local time, and on their widget your part of the day (for example “late night”), when your time zones differ, unless you’ve turned off Share my time. A time zone name can suggest roughly where you are, including when you travel. You can stop sharing it in Settings → Connection → Share my time
Their phone can also play a soft chime, with no text, when you send a whisper, and show a notification when you ask them for a whisper (a “nudge”). The nudge uses the first word of your display name, for example “Sara is thinking of you.” When you send a touch, their phone vibrates in that touch’s pattern, with a notification that has no text and disappears after a few seconds, and your moon glows in their app and on their widget for a few minutes. If their Lune status is Do Not Disturb, the touch glows but doesn’t vibrate. When you send a check-in, their phone shows a notification with the first word of your display name and the check-in, for example “Sara is home safe,” or “Sara: Gym done” for one of your own. It stays until they open or dismiss it. If their Lune status is Do Not Disturb, it arrives without sound.
Some other details are also available to your partner’s account while you’re paired. The app uses a few of them, and the rest are technically readable:
- #Subscription state. If one of you pays for Lune Pro, the other is told that their partner unlocked Lune, the renewal or access-until date, and whether there’s a payment problem on the payer’s side (for example, “Payment update needed on their side”).
- #Profile record. Your partner’s account can read your profile record. That record contains your display name, your last-active time, the time your account and profile were created and last updated, your encryption public key and its version, your trial start date, and your First Light status and Crescent number.
- #Pairing record. This shows when the two of you paired and which of you entered the code.
- #Keeps. When you kept each whisper you keep. The app doesn’t show it.
- #Key changes. If you reinstall Lune or sign in on a new phone, your partner is told you’re “on a new device.”
Your partner can’t see your email address, how you sign in, your push token, your custom labels that aren’t active, the check-ins you’ve saved but not sent, the words you give to touches, or your payment details.
Once your partner has something on their screen, we can’t control what they do with it (for example, taking a screenshot). Only pair with someone you trust.
While Lune is locked (the trial has ended and neither of you has an active subscription), your partner’s app still shows your display name and moon color and gets your encryption public key. Your status, mood, whisper, battery, last-active time and local time are not shown, touches and check-ins can’t be sent, and we stop sending updates to their widget, chimes and nudges.
After you disconnect, your partner can no longer get your current presence or whisper history. Anything already on their phone stays there until their app refreshes it (see section 8.3).
2.2Anyone who can see your phone
Lune’s widget shows your partner’s name, status, mood, latest whisper, battery and last-active time (and, when your time zones differ, their part of the day) on your home screen, decrypted and in plain view. For a few minutes after your partner sends a touch, it can also show the word you gave that touch, and for 2 hours after they send a check-in, it shows the check-in and when it was sent. The Lune Moon widget, if you add it, shows how many full moons you and your partner have shared. Anyone who can see your screen can see it too. The app’s own screens don’t have a separate lock. If this matters to you, use your phone’s screen lock, and think about where you put the widget.
Lune’s notifications can appear there too. The whisper chime and a touch have no text and disappear after a few seconds. A nudge and a check-in show your partner’s first name (and a check-in shows what they checked in with) until you open or dismiss them. On the lock screen, Android hides its text if you’ve chosen to hide sensitive notification content.
2.3Us
Our servers can read everything described in section 1 except whisper text. We only access personal information to operate, secure and support Lune, to comply with law, or when you ask us to (for example, in a support request).

We don’t use your information for advertising, profiling, selling, or training AI models. We don’t make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. The only automated decision Lune makes is whether your pair has access (trial or subscription), and that follows the fixed rules in our Terms of Service.
We don’t send marketing emails. The only emails Lune sends are sign-in codes. We may also reply to messages you send us. We don’t send promotional notifications either. The only notifications Lune shows are the whisper chime, nudges, touches and check-ins from your partner.
4Whisper encryption: what it protects, and what it doesn’t#
#How it works. Your phone creates a private key and keeps it in Android’s secure, hardware-backed storage. The key is never sent to us and is excluded from Android backups. Your phone and your partner’s phone each combine their own private key with the other’s public key to get the same secret key for your pairing. Whispers are encrypted with that key (XChaCha20-Poly1305) before they’re sent. Our servers, our push provider and Google’s messaging service only ever handle the encrypted version.
#What it doesn’t cover. Your display name, moon color, status (and when you set it and when it ends), mood, custom labels, battery level, last-active time, time zone, pairing records, subscription state, nudges, touches, check-ins (including the words of your own), which whispers you keep, and the fact and timing of each whisper aren’t end-to-end encrypted.
#Keys come from our server. Your phone gets your partner’s public key from our servers. To check that nobody (including us) has swapped in a different key, compare the safety number in Settings → Connection on both phones. If the numbers match, the keys are the right ones. Checking is optional. Dismissing a “new device” notice isn’t the same as checking.
#On your phone, whispers aren’t encrypted. After your phone decrypts whispers, it keeps them (and your partner’s latest presence) in Lune’s private app storage so the app and widget load quickly and work offline. That storage is protected by Android and your phone’s encryption, not by Lune’s end-to-end encryption. If you use Android’s backup, your phone’s backup may include this app data, handled under Google’s terms. It never includes your private key.
#Losing your key. If you uninstall Lune, clear its data, or sign in on a different phone, your phone makes a new key. Your partner’s phone then re-encrypts your shared history for the new key automatically the next time they open Lune. If both of you lose your keys before that happens, the encrypted history can’t be recovered by anyone, including us.
6Where information is processed#
We’re based in India. Our providers run servers in other countries, including the United States. That means your information may be stored and processed outside your country, in places with different data protection laws. When we transfer personal data from the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we rely on our providers’ legal transfer safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
7Information stored on your phone#
Lune keeps some information in its private storage on your phone:
- your sign-in session
- your encryption private key (in secure, hardware-backed storage, excluded from backups) and the public keys your partner has used
- cached copies of your pairing, your own presence, your partner’s presence, decrypted whisper history, and the widget’s contents
- your saved custom status/mood labels, and the check-ins you’ve saved (their words and icons)
- a copy of your moon color, and the words you give to touches. Touch words never leave your phone.
- the date you paired and, if either of you set it, the day you began, which Lune uses to count your moons together on the phone, and which milestone lines and invitations on Home you’ve dismissed
- preferences such as theme, Home scene and whether you’ve finished onboarding
- a note of the last whisper that chimed and when, so the same whisper doesn’t chime twice
- a note of the last touch you received (its pattern, and when it arrived) and of the last time you both reached at once, so the glow can show in the app and on the widget
- the last check-in you received (which one, its words and icon if it was your partner’s own, and when it was sent), so it can show in the app and on the widget for 2 hours, and a note of its ID, so the same check-in isn’t shown twice
- a note of the night you last answered “It’s late. Set Sleeping?”, so Home asks at most once a night
- the last time zone your phone sent us, so it’s only sent again when it changes, and whether Share my time is on
- the whispers you and your partner keep, and the whisper Home brings back from your history for the day. Both are stored encrypted, as our servers sent them, and decrypted only to show them
- a note of the last day Home brought back a whisper and whether it has shown your partner’s first whisper, and which whispers it has brought back in the past year and on which day (their IDs only, never their text), so the same whisper doesn’t come back within a year
Sign out removes your sign-in session, your phone’s push token from our servers, your cached partner data, your whisper history, your kept whispers and the day’s brought-back whisper, the copy of your moon color, your touch words, the dates Lune counts your moons from, the last check-in you received (and its notification), the night note, the note of the last time zone sent, your Share my time setting and the widget contents from the phone. Your moon color stays with your account on our servers. The record that your phone can receive chimes, nudges, touches and check-ins stays on our servers until you delete your account, but without the push token it isn’t used. Your saved custom labels and check-ins, preferences, dismissed milestones, the notes of which whispers Home has brought back, chime note, last-touch note, the ID of the last check-in, encryption key and the public keys your partner has used stay on the phone, so signing back in to the same account keeps your whispers readable.
Delete account removes the same data and your cached subscription status. Uninstalling Lune removes everything Lune stored on the phone.
8How long we keep information, and account deletion#
8.1While you have an account
We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Your moon color, status (and when it was set and ends), mood, battery, last-active time and time zone are overwritten each time they change, so we only keep the latest values, not a history. Your time zone stays until it changes, you turn off Share my time, or you delete your account. It belongs to you, not the pairing, so disconnecting doesn’t clear it, and a new partner sees it only while you share it. Touches are deleted automatically after 90 days. Check-ins are deleted after 30 days, and the words of your own check-ins after 2 hours. A keep lasts until you let the whisper go.
8.2Deleting your account
While you’re paired and have access, you can delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. At any time, including while you’re unpaired or Lune is locked, you can ask us to delete it at https://tally.so/r/9qPXE1 or by email. We may ask you to confirm you own the account first.
When your account is deleted, we immediately and permanently delete from our database:
- your sign-in record (email, Google account details) and profile (display name, last-active time, encryption public key, trial start date, First Light status)
- your presence (moon color, status and its times, mood, labels, battery, time zone, latest whisper)
- your invite codes, push tokens, the record that your phone can receive chimes, nudges, touches and check-ins, and your nudges
- every pairing you’ve been part of, including past ones, and every whisper, keep, touch and check-in in those pairings. This includes whispers, keeps, touches and check-ins your partner sent or made. Your current and former partners will lose that shared whisper history too.
- our copy of your subscription status
If you’re paired when you delete, you’re disconnected first, and your partner gets a new invite code.
What deletion doesn’t remove:
- #Billing event records. We keep the subscription event records RevenueCat sends us (event type, time, your Lune account ID, product, price, currency, store country and transaction identifiers). We need them for accounting, tax, refund and fraud questions, and they aren’t used for anything else.
- #Other people’s records. If you used your former partner’s invite code, the code record stays with their account but no longer points to you.
- #RevenueCat and Google Play. They keep their own purchase records under their own policies. Deleting your Lune account doesn’t cancel a Google Play subscription. Cancel it in the Play Store. If you’d also like us to ask RevenueCat to delete its customer record for your Lune account ID, email us.
- #Logs and backups. Technical logs and our database provider’s routine backups may hold deleted data for a limited period until they expire on their normal schedule. We don’t restore deleted accounts from backups.
- #Legal holds. We may keep information if the law requires us to, or if we need it to deal with a legal claim or abuse.
8.3Disconnecting without deleting
Disconnecting ends the pairing, but it doesn’t delete that pairing’s records or encrypted whispers. They stay on our servers, still encrypted, and you won’t see them in the app (a new pairing always starts with an empty history, even with the same person). They’re deleted when either person in that pairing deletes their account. Keeps stay with that pairing, hidden, like its whispers. That pairing’s touches are still deleted after 90 days, and its check-ins after 30 days.
8.4Support messages
We keep emails and form submissions for as long as we need them to deal with your request and keep a record of it.
9How we protect information#
- All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
- Database access rules only let your account read your own data and your current partner’s data. Sensitive fields (trial dates, First Light, encryption keys) can’t be changed directly from the app.
- Whispers are end-to-end encrypted, and the private key stays in Android’s hardware-backed storage (section 4).
- Server secrets never ship in the app, and our server functions check who is calling them.
No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee that information won’t be accessed without permission. If a data breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
10Your rights and choices#
In the app, at any time, you can:
- change your display name (Settings → Account)
- change your moon color (Settings → Your moon)
- change or clear your status, mood and custom labels, and give your status an end
- save or remove your own check-ins
- keep a whisper in your journal, or let it go (letting go removes only your own keep)
- change or clear the words you give to touches (Settings → Connection)
- set, change or clear the day you began (Settings → Connection, then your moons)
- stop sharing your time zone, or share it again (Settings → Connection → Share my time). Turning it off doesn’t hide your partner’s time from you
- disconnect from your partner (Settings → Connection)
- turn notifications off in Android settings, or turn off just one category: “Whisper chime,” “Whisper nudges,” “Touch · tap,” “Touch · hold,” “Touch · heartbeat,” “Check-ins” or “Check-ins · quiet.” Lune refreshes the widget with silent, data-only messages. The only notifications you’ll notice are the whisper chime, nudges, touches and check-ins. Turning all notifications off stops those (a touch still glows but doesn’t vibrate, and a check-in still shows in the app and on the widget) and makes widget updates less timely. If you’ve never allowed notifications, your partner can’t send you touches or check-ins.
- remove the widget
- sign out
- delete your account (in Settings while you’re paired and have access, otherwise with our web form or by email; see section 8.2)
By emailing us, you can ask to:
- get a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- correct information that’s wrong
- delete your information
- restrict or object to certain processing
- get your information in a portable format
- withdraw consent, where we rely on it
Depending on where you live, these may be legal rights (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or US state privacy laws such as California’s CCPA/CPRA). We’ll respond within the time the law allows, normally within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. You can use an authorized agent where the law allows it, and you can appeal a decision by replying to our response. We won’t treat you differently for using your rights.
#Nominee (India). Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated. Email us to do this.
#Complaints. Please contact us first, and we’ll try to fix it. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. For example: the Data Protection Board of India, your EU/EEA supervisory authority, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), or the Swiss FDPIC.
#For US residents. We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don’t use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. In the last 12 months, we’ve collected these categories of personal information, all for the purposes in section 3 and disclosed only to the providers in section 5:
- identifiers (email address, account ID, push token, IP address)
- commercial information (subscription status)
- internet or other electronic network activity (last-active time, status times, touches, check-ins, keeps, technical logs)
- device information (battery level, time zone)
- the content of your communications (whispers, which are encrypted and unreadable to us, and the words of your own check-ins, which are not)
We don’t respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, because Lune doesn’t track you across other apps or websites.
11Children#
Lune is only for people aged 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that’s higher. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a minor is using Lune, email us, and we’ll delete the account.
12Changes to this policy#
If we change this policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. If a change is significant, for example if we start collecting a new type of information or sharing it with a new kind of recipient, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Where the law requires your consent, we’ll ask for it.
